Who we are

At Flagstaff Community Exploration (FCE), we believe in the transformative power of art, nature and building community. Our mission is to foster creativity, a supportive community, and human connection through our immersive classes.

FCE is inspired by Reggio Emilia and Project-Based pedagogy. FCE views every child as capable. We believe it is the teacher’s role to co-create, observe and document as the child follows their own spiral (or journey), this allows for the teacher to find emerging threads in the child’s interests and create opportunities of continued and evolving exploration. We believe our children are the foundation of our communities and have the right to explore, be known, and heard within their community.

As our children learn about their world, an artistic and play based approach is central to how we teach. These are the ideals that Flagstaff Community Exploration will strive to co-create with our children.

Future goals

At FCE, we’re just getting warmed up! We have some big ideas, and we’ve shared a few for you below.

  • We are working on turning FCE into a nonprofit organization. Transforming Flagstaff Community Exploration into a nonprofit allows us to deepen our impact on our city by making art and community education more accessible to everyone. As a nonprofit, we can apply for grants, receive tax-deductible donations, and partner with other community organizations to expand our programs. This structure prioritizes reinvesting resources directly into our mission—providing meaningful art experiences that connect people to Flagstaff’s rich culture and vibrant community. Together, we can create a stronger foundation for creativity, collaboration, and cultural exploration.

  • Having visiting artists who bring fresh perspectives and new techniques.

  • Create a preschool for young explorers centered on similar themes in collaboration with NAU.

  • Provide developmentally appropriate classes for all community members.

  • We would love to hear what the community wants! Please share your ideas with us!
